New PrestaShop plan: the culmination of our R&D for a predictable, ultra-fast TTFB
In e-commerce, every millisecond counts. While the time it takes to display a full page depends on many factors (images, scripts, CSS), the overall speed of a PrestaShop store rests first and foremost on one fundamental metric: the Time To First Byte (TTFB). This is the time the server takes to respond to a browser’s first request.
After several months of research and development, we are delighted to announce the launch and immediate availability of our brand-new hosting plan, designed specifically to tackle the technical challenges unique to PrestaShop and to target a response time below 80 ms.
TTFB: PrestaShop’s long-standing bottleneck
PrestaShop is a powerful, flexible CMS, but its modular architecture and rich catalogues make it particularly demanding on server resources. Executing PHP code, running complex SQL queries, handling sessions and the shopping basket: the slightest request can push TTFB up, causing slowdowns that are visible from the very first interaction.
The consequences for an e-commerce business are immediate:
- A drop in conversion rate: a customer who waits more than a second before the page even starts loading is a customer ready to abandon their basket.
- A negative impact on SEO: TTFB is an indicator that Google takes directly into account in its Core Web Vitals. A slow server hurts your rankings.
- Instability during traffic peaks: conventional servers often collapse just when you need them most (Black Friday, sales, influencer campaigns).
Behind the scenes of our R&D: rethinking the infrastructure
Rather than simply adding raw power (CPU/RAM) — an approach that is often costly and inefficient — our technical team tackled the problem at its root. We analysed exactly how PrestaShop instances behave in production in order to design a tailor-made hosting stack.
Our R&D work focused on three main areas:
- Optimising PHP execution flows: a drastic reduction in server-side processing times.
- A smart, very low-level caching system: intercepting requests before they even reach the application, whenever possible.
- Fine-tuned handling of database queries: eliminating micro-latencies when accessing MySQL.
Tests carried out on complex environments (several thousand products, dozens of active modules) confirmed remarkable results, consistently lowering the initial response time.
Consistent server responsiveness, whatever the load or the number of visitors on your online store.
A clear goal: a controlled TTFB of 80 ms
The great strength of this new plan lies in the stability of its performance. Whereas most hosting services deliver speeds that vary with the overall load on the machine, our infrastructure is configured to target and maintain an extremely fast TTFB of 80 ms.
In practice, your store stays highly responsive whether you have 10 or 1,000 simultaneous visitors. It is the assurance of offering a perfectly smooth shopping journey and of giving search engine crawlers an exemplary response time.
